Commingle, Co-Pal, or Co-Mail?
These options all are unique in what they accomplish. Here is a basic description of each.
Commingle
The process in which mail "pieces" from different jobs, panels, or clients and almost always different postage payment types, weights, and rates are sorted as one large mailing. Volume results in saturation of zip codes which results in postage savings and speed of delivery.
Co-Pal
The process in which "containers" (trays) of mail from different mailings are combined into one larger mailing creating deeper drop ship entry. This improves postage savings and delivery times. This process does not improve the qualification level of the container therefore not achieving those finer qualification level discounts. For example, an AADC tray will still be an AADC tray after being sorted in Co-Pal, It would likely go from an Origin or NDC pallet destination to an NDC or SCF pallet destination.
Co-Mail
This is very similar to the letter commingling process but is for larger pieces such as magazines and periodicals. Pieces are addressed live during presort based on a data file that designates which publication to use.
